Who we are

We’re Cody and Shaye Needham — husband and wife, partners in life and in a shared calling. Married for ten years, we answered the Lord’s call to use our love for education to guide the next generation. Together we’ve built a life rooted in service, faith, and a deep conviction that school should prepare children for life, not just tests.

Cody grew up on a horse and cattle ranch in Central Utah, followed by years of hands-on experience in public service and leadership. As a former federal law enforcement officer, firefighter, educator, and successful business owner, he understands discipline, responsibility, and practical problem-solving. Shaye is an Alabama certified and licensed, award-winning teacher and a certified professional tutor with a heart for children and a track record of helping students flourish academically and personally. She is an artist, entrepreneur, and has experience in career readiness. Shaye has helped students receive scholarships and workforce preparedness.

Our vision is simple and intentional: to create a school that reflects the simplicity, purpose, and character of an 1800’s schoolhouse — a place where learning belongs. We believe children should be educated, not merely taught. That means grounding academic standards in timeless principles while also equipping young people with real-life social and workforce skills: manners, work ethic, civic responsibility, communication, and practical trades.

Above all, we are called to serve our community as educators. Southern Prairie Schoolhouse exists to cultivate confident, capable, and Christ-centered students who are prepared for both work and life. We invite families who share this vision to join us in restoring education to where it belongs: rooted in truth, shaped by character, and focused on preparing the next generation to serve well.
